The Milwaukee Indian Education Incorporated (MIEC) is an organization that works to promote, advocate, support educational issues and initiatives for the American Indian community in Metro-Milwaukee and surrounding areas. As part of this purpose, the MIEC would like to honor a member of the community with an Impact Award at this year’s All-City Graduation Celebration at the Indian Community School on Thursday, May 9th, 2024.
The nominee must be an influential leader who has made a notable impact in the lives of Native American students in the greater Milwaukee area. Nominees include, but are not limited to school administrators, teachers, professors, coaches, mentors and other inspirational members of the community.
We know that there are influential people that have helped pave a way for success for scholars in the greater Milwaukee area. The MIEC wants to make sure that we acknowledge those who have gone above and beyond to support our First Nations students. This includes the 11 federally recognized tribes in the state of Wisconsin and the over 500 nations that still thrive on Turtle Island.
This award would not be possible without the generous support of the Forest County Potawatomi Grant Foundation, the Indian Community School, additional community donors and the efforts of the MIEC which is composed of leaders from a variety of tribal based support organizations around the Milwaukee area. These organizations include the Gerald L. Ignace Indian Health Center, HIR Wellness, Ho Chunk Nation Milwaukee Branch, Marquette University, MPS First Nations, Southeastern Oneida Tribal Services, and The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
The following form can be used to submit your nomination for the 2024 MIEC Impact Award. The award winner will be acknowledged at the MIEC All-City Graduation Celebration and given a plaque and blanket for their dedication to the well being and success of our Native American students in the Milwaukee-Metro Area. The deadline for entries is Thursday, April 11th, 2024.
